Everyone with a vacation home uses it in different ways. Some visit for a week each year, while others fly down every weekend and holiday possible, making it a true second home. One thing most have in common, however, is that they try to maximize their investment by at least occasionally renting out their home to other vacationers. Thanks to services like VRBO and Air BNB, this is getting easier to do with each passing year.
When that’s the case, be sure to follow these tips for maximum return on your investment (and happy renters!)
Ramp up marketing. If you don’t consider yourself a savvy businessperson, use friends and family to help spread the word about your rental. And don’t forget to post listings online and in social media groups.
Clean it up. Spruce up your interior and exterior decorating, fix any leaky faucets and repair broken windows, screens or fixtures. The less your renters have to worry about, the more likely they will be to pay more for their stay.
Extend the stay. Generally, rental properties have a weeklong minimum stay requirement, but if you allow renters to stay for a long weekend, you can take advantage of travelers looking for a shorter, more affordable getaway.
